Great Exercises to Do On a Pull Up Bar
You just installed your pull up bar — specifically, a Stud Bar—into your home gym and now wondering what type of exercises you can do on it besides pull ups and chin ups. You can do quite a bit more than chin ups when you buy a pull up bar. There are many ab exercises that you can do from those exercises that will build up your core and strengthen your back. If you take the time to learn these different exercises, you will start to see changes in your rep abilities within a week.
Chin Ups and Pull Ups
Everyone knows that you can do both chin ups and pull ups on a Stud Bar ceiling or wall mountable pull up bar, it is important that you know that there is a major difference between the two exercises. These two disciplines may seem similar, but they really are not. Chin ups (Palms facing you) focus on your biceps, where pull ups (Palms facing away from you) focus on your back.
Work on bringing your chin to the bar and progress to pulling your chest up to the pull up bar.
Hanging Leg Raise
Hanging leg raises are a great exercise that you can do on a pull up bar that will help to strengthen your core. Simply hang from the pull up bar with your arms extended, hands about shoulder width apart and pull in your abdominal muscles. At the same time, start to lift your legs up towards your chin. You can make this more challenging by keeping your legs straight or by adding a weight to your ankles.
Side Crunches
Side crunches are also a perfect abdominal exercise you can do on a pull up bar. Like the hanging leg raise, simply hang from the pull up bar. In the process, keep your legs together and slightly bend your knees. Lift both legs to one side, holding for 5 seconds then release. Repeat this on the other side. Try to start with a set of 10.
